The LSU offensive line has a tough assignment in Saturday night's matchup against No. 3 Texas A&M. The Aggies own one of the best pass rushes in all of college football, ranking 6th in the country with 25 sacks on the season. Aggie DE Cashiu Howell leads the SEC and ranks 6th nationally with eight sacks of his own so far in 2025. In a must-win game for Brian Kelly's group, protecting Garrett Nussmeier and getting the running game going will be of the utmost importance.
Unfortunately, LSU will be down a starter up front as Tyree Adams has already been ruled out for Saturday's contest against Texas A&M. Adams went down with an ankle injury in the 1st quarter against Vanderbilt and was unable to return to the field. Brian Kelly has given a futher update on Adams' status, and LSU can expect to be without Adams for more than just the Texas A&M game.
Tyree Adams injury update: LSU tackle undergoes surgery
During his radio show on Thursday, Kelly said that Adams has undergone tightrope surgery on his ankle. Adams' exact timeline to return wasn't specified, although he will be sidelined for several more weeks - and possibly for the rest of the season. “That generally takes four-to-five weeks to come back,” Kelly said. “So maybe we’ll have him by the end of the year, maybe not.”
Kelly's uncertainty doesn't give LSU fans much confidence that Adams will be back before the end of the season, but it's certainly a possibility. His absence comes at the worst possible time for LSU, as the offensive line was already struggling and now has to face Texas A&M's vaunted pass rush without its starting left tackle.
DJ Chester replaced Adams in the Vanderbilt game, but a new face will get the starting nod against the Aggies on Saturday night. Taking Adams' spot at left tackle will be 5-star freshman Carius Curne. He has seen action at right tackle this season, replacing Weston Davis against Ole Miss when Davis was sidelined with an injury. Curne ran as the backup left tackle throughout the course of fall camp.
If LSU wants to have any shot at beating Texas A&M, Curne is going to have to put together a solid performance. The offense as a whole hasn't been able to consistently sustain drives, although the last two weeks have looked a bit better. But going up against Texas A&M's defense presents a tough challenge, and the Tigers are going to need to be on their game.
