It's been less than 24 hours since Brian Kelly was fired as the head football coach at LSU, and plenty of lists for potential replacements are making the rounds on social media. Being the LSU head coach is arguably the best job in all of college football, and the best coaches in the sport are going to be interested in becoming the next leader of the Tigers.

Lane Kiffin does nothing to slow down LSU rumors with his latest comments

But as Brian Kelly learned the hard way, mediocrity will not be accepted in Baton Rouge. Going through the motions hoping to just coast to titles is not how it's done. LSU is not just another college football coaching job, it's a premier landing spot that demands the best.

Former Auburn QB and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton knows the demands of the SEC, and he has chimed in on the LSU coaching vacancy. Speaking on First Take on Monday, Newton warned potential coaches of what to expect when coaching at LSU.

Cam Newton sends warning message to LSU's next head coach

"Mediocre coaching will not be tolerated. You must understand that. So anybody who wants to insert their resume for a potential job interview, you must understand if you don't have intentions to win...do not take that job," Newton said. "Brian Kelly's demeanor ever since walking into the Bayou State has always been a little laxed. That's not what SEC represents, especially when you look at the likes of a Nick Saban, Ed Orgeron, and Les Miles. They had attitude, their teams were violent and they stood on something. So the next person who thinks about coaching LSU, or any Tier 1 team in the SEC, you can't play around. You have to be intentional and you have to win fast."

Newton added that these are aspects of coaching in the SEC that Kalen DeBoer has seemed to figure out at Alabama. DeBoer is only in Year 2 in Tuscaloosa, and has his team with a strong 7-1 record and No. 4 ranking in the AP Poll. Kelly was in Year 4 and still hadn't figured out the sense of urgency and purpose that comes with being the LSU head coach.

Depending on who LSU goes after, Newton's remarks may already be known by potential replacements for Kelly. For starters, Lane Kiffin is obviously very familiar with the SEC, Dan Lanning coached under Saban at Alabama and Kirby Smart at Georgia, Jon Sumrall has been an assistant in the SEC, and Joe Brady has been at LSU and seen first-hand the demands of the job.

Being the head coach at LSU is a different animal, but if LSU goes after one of these coaches, they will know what they are signing up for. If the school hires someone unfamiliar with the SEC and LSU, and they don't embrace the position with a sense of urgency like Kelly, it could be a cause of major frustration for the Tiger faithful once again - which is the last things LSU Football needs.
