In a stunning move that is rocking the college football world, LSU has fired Brian Kelly. It was a move that had to happen, as Kelly had lost the fan base after yet another underwhelming season in Baton Rouge.

Entering the 2025 season, the expectation was that Kelly's team would compete for an SEC title and National Championship. But after suffering a third loss of the season in embarrassing fashion against Texas A&M on Saturday night, LSU has pulled the plug on Kelly 8 games into the season.

LSU fires Brian Kelly following loss to Texas A&M

According to Pete Nakos, LSU has made the decision to fire Kelly just 3.5 years into his 10-year contract. Kelly had been on the hot seat in recent weeks, and fans reached a boiling point after the Texas A&M loss.

Kelly came to LSU in 2021 after 12 seasons at Notre Dame. He ends his tenure in Baton Rouge with a 34-14 overall record and a 19-10 record in SEC play. Generally speaking, Kelly won the games he was supposed to, but failed to deliver wins under the brightest lights. Kelly went just 5-11 against ranked teams at the helm of the LSU program, which is simply unacceptable.

Kelly failed to carry on LSU's tradition of greatness that was seen under previous head coaches. Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Ed Orgeron all won national titles by Year 4 of their respective tenures at LSU. Kelly never came close. The Tigers never made the College Football Playoff and appeared in just one SEC title game under Kelly.

Saturday's lopsided loss was the final straw. Returning home to Death Valley for a night game against a top-5 team, it was an ideal bounce back spot for the Tigers. But instead, fans were heading for the exits in the 4th quarter as Texas A&M rolled to a 49-25 win. Aggie fans outnumbered Tiger fans down the stretch, which will be the lasting image of Kelly's tenure at LSU.
