The first AP Top 25 Poll of the season is here. The new college football season is quickly approaching, and now we have a definitive list ranking the top teams in the country.

LSU is ranked No. 9, and officially enters the new season as a top ten team. The Tigers were also ranked No. 9 in the preseason coaches poll, which was released on Aug. 4.

The Texas Longhorns received the top spot in both the preseason coaches poll and the AP Poll. In the AP Poll, another SEC team doesn't come until Georgia at the No. 5 spot. Penn State, Ohio State, and Clemson make up the No. 2, 3, and 4 spots respectively.

After No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 7 Oregon, and No. 8 Alabama, LSU comes in at No. 9. The Tigers are ranked just ahead of No. 10 Miami (FL). LSU is the No. 4 SEC team in the poll, and enters the 2025 season with lofty expectations.

As Brian Kelly enters his fourth season in Baton Rouge, Tiger fans are hungry for a big season. LSU has not made the College Football Playoff under Kelly, and has appeared in just one SEC title game. With a boatload of returning talent and the No. 1 transfer portal class in the country, the Tiger faithful have their sights set on a national title.

The season will be tough. The Tigers will play seven teams featured in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll: No. 4 Clemson, No. 8 Alabama, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 15 Florida, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 19 Texas A&M, and No. 21 Ole Miss. LSU begins the new campaign with a road tilt against Clemson on Aug. 30, where they battle Dabo Swinney's squad in non-conference play. Then, an eight game SEC slate awaits that features several high-intensity matchups.
