When Brian Kelly took over the LSU Football program in 2021, one of his first moves was to fire Strength and Conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt. The beloved coach had been at LSU since 2000, serving as the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator before getting promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Strength & Conditioning in 2016. Moffitt joined Mike Elko's staff at Texas A&M in 2024, and his return to Death Valley this past weekend was personal.

The Aggies humiliated the Tigers by a score of 49-25. LSU fans were heading for the exits early at Tiger Stadium, and the embarrassing loss proved to be too much for Brian Kelly to keep his job. LSU fired Kelly the next day, giving Moffitt the last laugh.

Texas A&M is now 2-0 against LSU since Moffitt joined Elko's staff in college station. The Aggies won last year's matchup 38-23 at Kyle Field, and this year's trip to Baton Rouge was Moffitt's first since leaving LSU. The win was personal for Moffitt for many reasons, who spoke with TexAgs live earlier this week about the significance of leaving Tiger Stadium with a win.
"That was my goal," Moffitt said. "To someday go back into Tiger Stadium and come out victorious."

The win moved Texas A&M to 8-0 on the season. It's the first time they have reached that mark since 1992, and Saturday's win was the first at Tiger Stadium since the program joined the SEC. The Aggies hold the No. 3 ranking in the AP Poll this week.
Speaking with the media, Elko credited Moffitt for playing a huge part in Texas A&M's wins over LSU the past two seasons. "Last two years in second half against LSU we outscored them 60-6. Says a lot about coach (Tommy) Moffitt," Elko said. The Aggies came into Death Valley and were by far and away the more physical team, and it was extremely evident in the 24-point win.
During his time in Baton Rouge, Moffitt helped lead the Tigers to three National Championships under three different head coaches (Nick Saban, Les Miles, Ed Orgeron). In addition, he has earned several strength & conditioning coach honors throughout the years. In LSU's historic 2019 season, Moffitt was named the FootballScoop Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year. He was given the College Coach's Choice Award by Strength Performance following an undefeated season in 2011. He was also awarded the 2003 College Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year by America Football Monthly.
