Malik Nabers was an absolute star for the LSU Tigers. Then, after becoming the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, he was a star for the New York Giants, as well.

With his second season in the NFL on the horizon, Nabers and the Giants are ramping up fall practices. On Tuesday morning, the former LSU wide receiver had his practice cut short.

Nabers went down on a run play and lay on the ground for about 10 seconds. Then, the wideout slowly walked off the field while holding his shoulder. A few minutes later, it was shared that Nabers was done for the day.

Cutting a practice short doesn't necessarily mean anything serious. The season is still weeks away, and teams will frequently rest a player to avoid further injury. It's the smart thing to do when you pay someone millions of dollars a year to perform during the season and not during practice.

However, a sensitive shoulder is far from a great sign for the Giants' go-to guy downfield, which is exactly who Nabers became during his rookie season.

Malik Nabers rookie season stats

  • 109 receptions
  • 1,204 receiving yards
  • 7 receiving touchdowns
  • 1 2-point conversion

Nabers was a constant target for New York quarterbacks Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito last season. He led the Giants' receiving room by more than 500 yards and nearly doubled the number of touchdowns by the next wideout, Wan'Dale Robinson, who scored just three TDs.

The receiver set a franchise record for the Giants with the most receptions by a rookie. He even made his first Pro Bowl appearance, replacing Detroit Lions' wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, who withdrew due to injury.

Fans don't need to hit the panic button quite yet, despite Nabers walking off the field in obvious discomfort. The preseason doesn't start until Aug. 9, and the actual season doesn't kick off until Sept. 7, so there is plenty of time for Nabers to get back to 100 percent.

On Sept. 7, the Giants will face the Washington Commanders at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on FOX and streamed on the NFL Network's RedZone.
