The transfer portal continues to get filled ahead of its official opening on December 9th as players announce their intent to enter the portal. The LSU Tigers saw three additional players enter the transfer portal on Friday as reserves Xavier Atkins, Jyaire Brown, and Bernard Causey enter the transfer portal.

While the tweet states that Johnson will enter the transfer portal he has since confirmed that he won't be transferring.

While some will make it seem like LSU is dealing with a mass exodus to the transfer portal, its clear what LSU is doing here. The Tigers are clearly reevaluating players who were recruited by Matt House and his staff and deciding who fits best and who they should nudge towards going elsewhere. The majority of the players on this roster were recruited by coordinators who aren't in Baton Rouge anymore and the new staff needs to determine who's truly a fit for their schemes.

Xavier Atkins is the biggest loss of the group as the True Freshman linebacker departs after one season. Atkins was a four-star recruit and played a few reps appearing in 7 games and stepping in while Greg Penn III dealt with an injury. Given the outlook of the position, Atkins is most likely looking for somewhere he can play sooner than at LSU.

Cornerback Jyaire Brown transferred into LSU from Ohio State but, has mostly played while on special teams. The Tigers return a young group of cornerbacks along with the addition of DJ Pickett which makes the defensive back room crowded.

Causey signed with LSU last recruiting cycle as three star out of Louisiana and redshirted this season. Given that LSU has brought in a ton of players in the secondary it makes a ton of sense that LSU will see departures in the room.

As the Tigers continue to clear roster spots, it'll allow LSU to be even more aggressive in the transfer portal.
