Garrett Nussmeier earned the respect of LSU Football fans if he hadn't already done so
On Saturday Night, Garrett Nussmeier truly earned his Tiger stripes if he hadn't done so already. Early on in this game, Garrett Nussmeier got drilled by a defender and landed on his shoulder and stayed down requiring medical attention. Nussmeier went from the field into the medical tent and when he left the tent without his pads and went into the locker room everyone thought this injury may have been serious.
Then Garrett Nussmeier emerged from the locker room in his pads ready to return although his return was delayed by a 100 yard kick return touchdown from Aaron Anderson.
When Nussmeier was able to return to the field, he played like a man possessed turning in an incredible and an incredibly gutsy performance. He quickly dispelled any concerns of a serious injury going 4-4 passing for 60 yards with a 40-yard touchdown to Chris Hilton Jr as the two finally connected on a deep ball.
In the third quarter, Nussmeier one upped himself this time throwing a 45 yard bomb to Chris Hilton Jr which was more like a 50+ yard pass when you account for how far into the endzone it was thrown.
Once Nussmeier returned to the game it was some of the best football he's played this season. Nussmeier was using his legs and diving to pick up first downs while his deep ball looked the best it has all season.
There were times you could clearly tell that Nussmeier was hurting as he came up limping after getting knocked down multiple times. After the game, Nussmeier said that he had to play as he couldn't sit the game out while his teammates played their final game in Tiger Stadium.
This season Nussmeier's play has been divisive as some feel he's not the guy for the team while most feel that he just needs to continue playing football as he's still in his first season as a starter. Regardless of whether you think he's the answer or not and regardless of anything else you may think, if Nussmeier's gutty performance didn't earn your respect than what would.
