Garrett Nussmeier entered the 2025 season among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. The veteran QB is off to a slow start, and has been battling a torso injury through the first quarter of the season. Thus, his Heisman odds have taken a bit of a nosedive in recent weeks.
But, Nussmeier was able to get going against Southeastern Louisiana in Week 4 with a 273 yard and three touchdown performance. He was back to his normal efficient self by completing 25 of his 31 pass attempts. A performance against an FCS team isn't going to impact his Heisman odds, but Tiger fans are hoping it helped get Nussmeier and company into a rhythm before going head-to-head with Ole Miss this Saturday.
Garrett Nussmeier Heisman odds update
With odds of +900, Oklahoma QB John Mateer ended Week 4 as the Heisman favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook. But on Wednesday it was reported that Mateer will undergo surgery on his throwing hand after suffering an injury against Auburn. The Sooner QB is slated to miss several weeks and multiple key matchups for Oklahoma. It's a crushing blow for Mateer and Oklahoma, who were cruising to a 4-0 start and already has a pair of ranked wins over Michigan and Auburn. Unsurprisingly, news of the injury has sent Mateer's Heisman odds plummeting.
Via FanDuel, Mateer is now 33rd on the Heisman odds board with odds of +10000. Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza is now the favorite with odds of +650. Oregon QB Dante Moore and Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith are not far behind at +1100 apiece.
Nussmeier now sits 10th on the Heisman odds board on FanDuel Sportsbook. The Lake Charles native now has odds of +1600 to win the prestigious award, which is a slight change from his odds of +1700 heading into Week 4. Nussmeier has a massive opportunity to move up in the odds board with a strong performance at No. 13 Ole Miss on Saturday. In last season's matchup against the Rebels, Nussmeier threw for 337 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. However, he posted his lowest completion percentage of the season, after completing just 22 of his 51 passes for a completion percentage of 43.1.
