Lane Kiffin deciding to leave Ole Miss for LSU in the middle of a hunt for a National Championship sent shockwaves throughout the college football world. Kiffin led the Rebels to their first-ever 11-win regular season, but made the move to Baton Rouge on November 30. LSU is arguably the best job in all of college football, and in the end, the appeal of LSU was too much for Kiffin to pass up.

A major part of LSU's appeal comes on the recruiting trail. LSU has a major advantage over other SEC schools, as it is the only power conference school in a state that is a recruiting hotbed. That makes Baton Rouge the overwhelming target for all of the top players in The Bayou State. Louisiana is full of elite prospects year-in and year-out, which gives LSU an automatic leg up in being able to recruit the nation's top talent locally.

Kiffin is already enjoying those benefits.

Impressive recruiting stat shows why Lane Kiffin coming to LSU wasn't a surprise

Kiffin has only been in Baton Rouge for a couple weeks, but he has already surpassed a key recruiting number from his time in Oxford. Kiffin has already signed more 5-star recruits at LSU than he did throughout his six years at Ole Miss.

During his introductory press conference, Kiffin stated that signing the best class possible is his No. 1 priority at this time. He is off to a good start, inking 14 players to LSU's 2026 recruiting class.

The class is led by 5-star prospects Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson. Kiffin wasted no time meeting with Brown in Baton Rouge, as he had a 1-on-1 meeting with the nation's top prospect just hours after he was announced as LSU's next head coach. The move paid off, as Brown officially signed with the Tigers during the Early Signing Period. Anderson also made his commitment official by signing during the Early Signing Period as well.

LSU has everything a coach needs to be successful, which is why the previous three coaches before Brian Kelly - Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Ed Orgeron - all brought national titles to LSU by the end of their 4th seasons. The LSU fan base is starving for a shot at another national title, and Kiffin is hoping to deliver.

His early recruiting success is a great start, and shows why leaving Ole Miss for LSU wasn't a surprising move from a recruiting standpoint.
