The LSU Tigers have one of the best defenses in all of college football. Defensive coordinator Blake Baker has done a tremendous job of revamping LSU's defense, which was willed the Tigers to a 5-1 start and No. 10 ranking in the AP Poll entering Week 8. The Tiger defense is coming off a strong performance against South Carolina that saw them sack LaNorris Sellers five time and force two turnovers while allowing just 10 points.

The LSU defense is having a historic season so far

Great scoring defense has been a theme for LSU this season. The Tigers are allowing a measly 11.8 points per game to their opponents so far this season, which ranks 5th in the nation. It's been a historic start for the Tiger defense, as they have allowed the fewest total points (71) through the first six games of the season since 2007.

The Tigers are allowing just 1.11 points per drive through 5 games against FBS opponents, which is good for 6th in the country. Blake Baker's squad has been great at getting stops and preventing points all season long. In fact, LSU ranks 4th in the country with a stop rate of 80%. For comparison, during Jayden Daniels' Heisman winning campaign in 2023, the LSU defense ranked 131st in stop rate at this point in the season.

LSU has held five of its six opponents to 10 points or less this season. The only time an opponent exceeded that mark was against Ole Miss in Week 5, when the Tigers fell to the Rebels by a score of 24-19. It was LSU's worst defensive game of the season, but the defense still kept the Tigers in the game by allowing just seven points in the second half.

Not surprisingly, LB Whit Weeks leads LSU with 40 tackles on the season. S AJ haulcy is second on the team with 39 tackles. Haulcy's 24 solo tackles lead the team. As a team, LSU has 16 sacks for 120 yards through six games. The Tigers also have eight interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries.

The Tigers have a tough assignment on deck this weekend, as the Vanderbilt Commodores are among the highest scoring offenses in the country. But LSU has shown they can make life difficult on any opponent, which figures to give them a great shot at finding the win column.
