The end of the regular season is upon us as the LSU Baseball team heads to South Carolina to face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks. The matchup will pit the LSU Baseball program against Tigers National Championship Head Coach Paul Mainieri who's in his first season as the Gamecocks Head Coach. Mainieri's first season at South Carolina hasn't gone well and the result of this weekend could impact whether he's back next season.

The LSU Baseball team enters this game as the Nation's top ranked team with a 40-12 record and a 17-10 record in SEC Play. The Gamecocks on the other hand are 27-26 and 5-22 record in the Conference. This series is more impactful for the LSU Baseball team as the Tigers are still fighting to earn a top 4 seed into the SEC Tournament which would give LSU a double bye.

As this series begins on Thursday, it alters the plan for this weekend's games, especially for the LSU Baseball team. Rather than pushing Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson up 1 day, the Tigers will keep them on normal rest meaning they'll start the 2nd and 3rd games of the series. The South Carolina Gamecocks may be without their star slugger as Ethan Petry is listed as questionable.

Pitching Matchups:

Thursday:

  • LSU: To be announced
  • South Carolina: Ashton Crowther (LHP): (2-2, 4.13 ERA, 32.2 IP, 7 BB, 24 SO)
