The Weeks brothers had an interesting night against Florida last week. Just a few plays into the game, star linebacker Whit Weeks was ejected following a controversial targeting call. Then, West Weeks went down with a lower body injury later in the third quarter. That left LSU's linebacker group thin all of a sudden, so the youngest Weeks brother, true freshman Zach, stepped in and played some big snaps for the Tiger defense down the stretch.
As kick-off between LSU and Southeastern Louisiana draws nearer, Brian Kelly has provded an update on West Weeks' injury.
West Weeks injury update: Linebacker is doubtful to play on Saturday
Speaking with the media after practice on Thursday, Kelly said that Weeks is dealing with a calf injury and is listed as doubtful for Week 4 against Southeastern Louisiana. It's a tough blow for the Tiger defense, but the good news is that Kelly and the medical staff don't believe the injury will be a long-term situation.
"We don't think it's a serious injury. It's not a knee. It's not an MCL, but it was a calf injury, and he couldn't really put any pressure on it. So, our doctors felt it was prudent that if he couldn't put enough pressure on it, he was not going to be effective."Brian Kelly
Weeks sustained his injury in the third quarter against the Florida on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. After pressuring DJ Lagway, Weeks went down with a lower body injury and remained on the ground for several moments. He then needed assistance proceeding to the medical tent. He brieflyemerged from the tent with his helmet on, but then had to go back in. The graduate student linebacker was visibly upset by the injury, but continued to support his team from the bench throughout the remainder of the contest.
Given his status of doubtful, it seems unlikely that he will suit up this weekend against the Lions. Hopefully, Weeks is able to heal up and be ready for LSU's visit to Ole Miss next weekend. The Rebels' offense is among the highest-scoring in the country, so having the LSU defense at full strength would be a huge plus for the Tigers.
