Lane Kiffin continues to put in work on the recruiting trail. Kiffin's first few months on the job at LSU have been all about recruiting and roster construction, and now that the transfer portal window has closed, he and his staff have turned their attention to the high school ranks.

One player Kiffin and LSU are pushing hard to land is consensus 4-star cornerback prospect Taelyn Mayo. Hailing from Lewisville, TX, Mayo is one of the most sought-after defensive players in the 2027 class.

On Wednesday, Rivals' Hayes Fawcett reported that Mayo has narrowed his college choices down to five schools. As it stands, Mayo is still considering LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M.

Owning a large 6'3.5" 185-pound frame, Mayo is ranked as the No. 12 cornerback and No. 135 overall prospect in the country for the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite.

Back in October, Mayo released his list of top-10 schools that he has now cut in half by eliminating Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Miami (FL), and Oregon. At this time, he has only logged one unofficial visit during his recruitment. That came back in June 2024 when he visited Florida State.

Mayo's list of top-5 contenders is full of college football powers, but Tiger fans should feel good about LSU's chances. Kiffin has already shown his recruiting expertise in his short time in Baton Rouge, and the LSU program has a rich history of developing elite defensive back talent.

LSU's 2027 class remains with just two commits at this time: 4-star EDGE Jaiden Bryant and 4-star QB Peyton Houston. With Bryant and Houston as the only commits, LSU's 2027 class is ranked No. 30 per the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. As Kiffin and his staff continue to put in work on the recruiting trail, Tiger fans are eager to see that ranking increase.
