Lane Kiffin has been praised for his use of the transfer portal in recent seasons at Ole Miss. As he continues to build his LSU roster for his first season in Baton Rouge, he has made some solid additions. However, Kiffin is still searching for a solution to LSU's biggest need at the moment.

Could Lane Kiffin strike gold with under the radar transfer QB?

The portal has been open for more than a week now, and Kiffin has yet to find his quarterback for 2026. LSU currently has zero scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for next season, and Tiger fans are anxiously waiting to see what Kiffin pulls off.

In the latest development, LSU is set to host USC QB Husan Longstreet this weekend. Longstreet is a former 5-star recruit and was ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports.

Husan Longstreet set to visit LSU as Kiffin continues his QB search

Longstreet announced that he planned to enter the transfer portal on Friday morning, and quickly scheduled a visit to LSU. He spent this past season backing up Jayden Maiva for the Trojans, and has 4 years of eligibility remaining.

Longstreet appeared in 4 games for USC in 2025, completing 13 of his 15 pass attempts for 103 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He was also an effective runner, adding 76 yards, 6.9 yards per carry and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

Along with LSU, Longstreet is heavily considering the Oregon Ducks. According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, the 6'0" 200-pound gunslinger wants to play now for a National Championship contending team. Oregon QB Dante Moore has yet to announce his decision regarding the NFL Draft. He figures to be a First Round pick, but Oregon could also roll out the red carpet in hopes of getting him to return to Eugene in 2026.

The QB competition at LSU is far less competitive, as LSU currently has zero scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for 2026. Kiffin missed out on Brendan Sorsby to Texas Tech, and after heavily pursuing Sam Leavitt over the last week, Leavitt has yet to make a decision and has visited both Tennessee and Miami (FL) since his visit to LSU earlier this week.

Not landing Leavitt would be a crushing blow for Kiffin, but Longstreet could be a solid option. Kiffin still figures to bring in multiple QBs via the portal, but desperation could be setting in. Tiger fans are waiting with bated breath to see what Kiffin does in the second week of the portal being open. Finding a QB remains his top priority.
