Lane Kiffin's reported move to LSU comes with many moving parts

Kiffin also expressed his wishes to continue coaching Ole Miss throughout the College Football Playoff. However, athletic director Keith Carter wasn't about to let that happen. Instead, Keith Golding was quickly hired to be Kiffin's replacement in Oxford.
Kiffin has dominated headlines over the last several weeks in regard to his future, so it's not surprising to see Kiffin's post taking social media by storm. The post already has north of 16 million impressions and over 10,000 comments. Kiffin is one of the most active head coaches on social media, as his X account is nearing 800,000 followers.
Lane Kiffin takes over hungry LSU program
Kiffin heads to LSU after leading Ole Miss to its best-ever regular season, finishing the season with an 11-1 record. The Rebels are essentially a lock for the CFP, and Golding is set to lead the team on the hunt for a National Championship.
LSU has not been to the College Football Playoff since its historic 2019 National Championship season. Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Ed Orgeron all delivered national titles by the end of their respective 4th seasons at LSU, and Kiffin is looking to get the program back to that stage.
Brian Kelly was fired on October 26 after 3.5 seasons in Baton Rouge. He posted an overall record of 34-14 to go along with a 19-10 record in SEC play. He never led the Tigers to the CFP and appeared in just one SEC Championship game. After entering the 2025 season with National Championship hopes, the season went off the rails as Kelly was fired after eight games holding a 5-3 record and 2-3 mark in SEC play.
Kelly's unsuccessful tenure has LSU fans starving for a shot at another national title. Kiffin was target No. 1 throughout LSU's coaching search, and now, he is officially taking over.
