Latest 5-star updates on Easton Royal and Ahmad Hudson should have LSU fans talking

For LSU, news is always flowing like the Mississippi River, no matter the sport. However, while sports go through breaks, recruiting never sleeps.

In recent days, there have been some major news stories in the recruiting world as things come to a head with the season starting in a few weeks and National Signing Day coming in just under four months.

LSU has been at the center of two of them, and they involve two of the state’s most sought-after recruits. We're of course talking about 5-star playmakers Easton Royal and Ahmad Hudson. Where will the two end up playing their college ball?

5-star WR Easton Royal locks in two game visits with LSU

For many LSU fans, one of the biggest storylines has been whether or not the Tigers can flip five-star wide receiver Easton Royal. The blue-chipper from Brother Martin High School in New Orleans has scheduled game-day visits to LSU (Sept. 5), Texas (Sept. 12), and Florida (Sept. 26). Royal also plans to be at LSU (Nov. 14) when the Longhorns are set to play inside Tiger Stadium.

It is a good thing that Royal is visiting LSU as early as he is, as it gives Lane Kiffin as much 1-on-1 time with him as possible. Even better, he’s coming to Baton Rouge twice.

Royal, widely viewed by recruiting analysts as the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2027 class, is currently committed to Texas, However, Kiffin and LSU made him a top priority for two reasons: he is the No. 1 wide receiver in the country (obviously) and you cannot lose a five-star route runner who resides around an hour and 15 minutes on I-10 East.

According to different reports, Royal is taking his time with his decision, as he will not be making his final call until some time during the season with the latest being on National Signing Day on Dec. 4. He’ll need another look at each finalist before he either affirms his decision to stick with the Longhorns or flip to either Florida or LSU.

“It’s tighter than ever,” Royal told Rivals on the race between LSU, Florida, and Texas after his official visits.

“It’s something to definitely lose sleep about. I’m just really trying to make sure that the decision I make is for all of the right reasons, and it makes sense for me and also my family. Trying to make sure this decision sets me up for life after ball as well.”

Nebraska doing whatever they can to get Ahmad Hudson to flip

While LSU is doing whatever they can to flip one of their in-state targets from one Power Four school, they may have to do whatever they can to keep one of their own from flipping to another.

LSU 5-star TE commit Ahmad Hudson made some comments in a report by On3’s Nebraska site, Inside Nebraska, that went viral on social media. They still have plenty of LSU fans talking.

“The program you wouldn’t expect to be doing their job to try and get me to come there, is doing what they need to do,” Hudson said. “The program you most expect it from is not doing what they need to do.” 

This has nothing to do with LSU football as Kiffin and his staff have been in constant communication with him. This probably has more to do with basketball, as Nebraska basketball head coach Fred Hoiberg has been in communication along with its head football coach Matt Rhule.

Remember, LSU just brought back Will Wade, and the two did meet up in June, but he has been more focused on building this year’s roster. As of right now, LSU has more coaches than players. So while the communication hasn't been great, Wade has to build his roster for this season.

However, expect Wade and his staff to be heavily involved in Hudson’s recruitment moving forward as we get into the fall.
