The Lane Kiffin sweepstakes continue to take the college football world by storm. Kiffin is still weighing his options and has yet to make a decision as both LSU and Florida try to lure him away from Ole Miss. Kiffin is the current betting favorite to become LSU's next head coach, and if he does in fact make his way to Baton Rouge, it would be interesting to see who he hires to join his staff.

On Thursday, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported that LSU would potentially welcome Ed Orgeron back to Baton Rouge as a part of Kiffin's coaching staff. Kiffin and Orgeron have a well-documented friendly relationship that goes back several years, and the pair would make for quite the duo on the sidelines at Tiger Stadium.

Could Coach O and Lane Kiffin team up in Baton Rouge?

Sources close to the LSU Football program have confirmed Zenitz's report. Staff writer Preston Guy of The Advocate confirmed that Coach O would be "very open" to joining Kiffin's staff in Baton Rouge if the opportunity was presented. Guy specifically mentioned that Orgeron would have interest in becoming LSU's defensive line coach.

Orgeron and Kiffin worked together at USC from 2001-04 when Orgeron was the associate head coach and Kiffin was the tight ends coach in 2001, wide receivers coach from 2002-04 as well as the passing game coordinator in 2004. Orgeron joined Kiffin's staff at Tennessee in 2009 and went with him to USC in 2010. Orgeron then took over the USC program on an interim basis following Kiffin's firing in 2013.

Orgeron has not coached since leaving LSU following the 2021 season. In six seasons at LSU, he posted an overall record of 51-20 which included a 31-17 mark in SEC play. He famously led the Tigers to a historic season in 2019, culminating in a National Championship. Things went downhill after that, as Orgeron led LSU to an 11-11 record the following two seasons. The school brought in Brian Kelly in December 2021.

Orgeron has publicly stated his desire to return to the coaching ranks several times over the past several months. A reunion in Baton Rouge with Lane Kiffin would be a welcome sight for Tiger fans to see.
