Garrett Nussmeier was one of the best passers in the country in 2024. The Lake Charles native threw for 4,052 yards, 29 touchdowns, and led the SEC with 337 completions. Nussmeier chose to forgo the 2025 NFL Draft in order to return to Baton Rouge for one more college season. Unfortunately, his 2025 campaign was plagued by injuries, and he ultimately missed three games and threw for 1,927 and 12 touchdowns on the year.
After ending his LSU career under unfortunate circumstances, the Senior Bowl presented a great opportunity for Nussmeier. Looking to prove to NFL teams that he was fully healthy and still capable of being a prolific passer, Nussmeier made the most of his opportunity.

Nussmeier put on a show in Mobile all weekend, which culminated in him being named the Senior Bowl MVP. That performance has the potential to pay off in the best way possible when it comes to April's NFL Draft.
Latest NFL Mock Draft has Nussmeier moving up the ranks
Nussmeier entered the 2025 season as a projected First Round pick. However, his injury-riddled senior season not only hindered his ability on the field, but led to a drop in his draft stock. He entered the Senior Bowl as a projected Round 2-3 pick, and he did himself plenty of favors by showing out in Mobile.
In the latest NFL Mock Draft from Saturday Blitz, Nussmeier is slated to be drafted in the 2nd round with the 61st overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams. Saturday Blitz's Nicholas Rome has Nussmeier as the third quarterback to come off the board, following Indiana's Fernando Mendoza (No. 1 overall to the Raiders) and Alabama's Ty Simpson (No. 21 overall to the Steelers).
Rome notes that the Rams may be a perfect fit for Nussmeier. "The Rams have two first-round picks, but the best time to draft an heir to Matthew Stafford may be on Day 2 of the draft," Rome writes. "After a solid showing at the Senior Bowl, Los Angeles could look to develop Nussmeier behind Matthew Stafford to see if he can develop into a starter.
When healthy, Nussmeier is capable of doing great things at the next level. LSU fans are sure to be rooting for him wherever he ends up. The 2026 NFL Draft takes place from April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.
Along with Nussmeier, the Saturday Blitz NFL Mock Draft has two other Tigers going in the first two rounds: CB Mansoor Delane (No. 5 overall to the Giants) and S AJ Haulcy (No. 44 overall to the Jets).
