Every LSU fan considered Sam Leavitt’s LSU QB journey started off as a total airball. Or so they thought.

Lane Kiffin took to the podium on Tuesday and completely busted the narrative with an update from spring practice.

Positive update on Sam Leavitt injury

“We threw 7-on-7 first – which we normally wouldn’t do – just so Sam [Leavitt] and a number of other players, including Whit [Weeks], were able to do that knowing they weren’t doing team stuff, "Kiffin said.

This could be the beginning LSU actually wanted for Leavitt. Last September’s Lisfranc surgery remains the final hurdle he needs to clear before the Tiger Nation fully buys into his comeback.

“He’s taken it very seriously. It’s a lot to learn within the system, and he really spends a lot of time up here. That’s not easy. When you’re not playing, it’s a little bit harder to stay locked in. He’s really serious about being great," Kiffin added on Leavitt.

“Sam did a good job. He only played eight plays, but he threw a touchdown on his first play on a very deep ball that probably would’ve went for a touchdown. He’s doing a great job. I just met with him this morning. He’s really competitive – wants to be great; wants the team to be great. He’s in a really good place.”

Kiffin sounds optimistic about Leavitt, but until they actually hear about him playing live snaps, it'll be tough buying into his hype as the cornerstone of the Tigers' 2026 season.
