The NFL world is buzzing as the Legal Tampering Window for NFL Free Agents opens on Monday which will create a free agent frenzy around the league. Despite Free Agency not being open yet, teams are already making moves as massive trades of DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuel, Christian Kirk, Joe Thuney, and others have already shaken up the league. The trade is a bargain for the New Orleans Saints as they get a proven NFL defensive lineman for a 7th round pick instantly getting better on the defensive line. Davon Godchaux signed a two year extension worth $16.5 Million in July which now lands him with the Saints for two seasons.
Godchaux had spent half of his NFL Career with the New England Patriots after signing with the team before the 2021 season. For the Patriots, Godchaux played in 68 games racking up 250 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and 10 quarterback hits.
Before his time in New England, Godchaux was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 5th round spending four years with the team. During his time in Miami Godchaux appeared in 52 games racking up 179 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 16 quarterback hits, and 3 sacks. The decision not to resign Godchaux proved costly as he landed in the Division.
The trade to New Orleans brings the Plaquemine back home to Louisiana where he was a standout at LSU. During his career at LSU, Godchaux was a three year starter on the defensive line where he recorded 145 tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss, and 12.5 sacks. The trade unites Godchaux with fellow LSU standouts Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Tyrann Mathieu. Godchaux will now be coach by defensive line coach Bo Davis who the Saints poached from LSU.
