If the LSU Basketball team's 5-1 record in the month of December was a December to Remember than the Tigers 1-6 record in January was one you hope to never think about again. It has been a brutal start to SEC Play as LSU has been outmatched against everyone except for Arkansas leaving LSU as the team with the third worst record in the SEC.

There are few things you can feel good about with the LSU Basketball team at this point in the season as it looks as if LSU will certainly take a step back after finishing 9-9 in SEC Play last season. If you're looking to the future, Corey Chest and Vyctorius Miller are clear building blocks while seeing Trey'Dez Green playing both Football and Basketball has been enjoyable.

Given that it's Matt McMahon's Third Year as LSU's Head Coach, the Tigers faithful will start to express their feelings whether they believe he's the man for the job or not. If you look at the games themselves rather than the results, Matt McMahon has been doing a great job coaching this team in SEC Play.

Coming into the season, LSU was projected to finish in the bottom of the SEC not because of coaching but, because of where the roster was. The Tigers were expected to struggle before they lost Tyrell Ward for the entire season and before Jalen Reed was injured right before SEC Play. Blaming McMahon for the makeup of the roster is fair but, LSU isn't as bought into the Basketball program on the NIL front as the teams that are beating the Tigers are.

This time last month, Trey'Dez Green was catching touchdown passes in the Texas Bowl, now he's playing nine minutes per game for the Tigers off the bench. Green is playing in part because he's a freak athlete who's flashed ability early on but, mostly because this team needs all the help it can get.

Despite being short handed, Matt McMahon has found a way to get his teams into close games they have no business in but, his team hasn't been able to pull them out as of late.

The Tigers were in a battle with Top Seeded Auburn for most of the game despite Auburn shooting the ball 29 times more than LSU because of the defensive game plan. Mark Sears got shutout by LSU in the Alabama game and if a few bounces went LSU's way they win the game. The Tigers were neck and neck with Texas A&M for most of the game before a disaster stretch saw LSU drop another Top 25 game.

While the results haven't been promising, LSU has had a chance in each of these games despite everyone expecting the Tigers to lose coming into the game. The Tigers record will lead to many being critical of McMahon but, given how the team is playing on the court compared to expectations, he's clearly getting the most of the talent he has.
