LSU extends a scholarship offer to Top-50 Cornerback Samari Matthews
This is a massive weekend for the LSU Football team both on the field as they face Alabama and off the field recruiting wise. The Tigers are set to host several top recruits in the 2025, 2026, and 2027 recruiting classes as the Tigers look to continue building momentum on the recruiting trail.
One of the positions LSU is picking up the most momentum with on the recruiting trail is at cornerback. The return of Corey Raymond has recruits once again excited about the chance of playing defensive back for Raymond at LSU. In the 2025 recruiting class, Raymond has landed three top cornerbacks in DJ Pickett, Kade Phillips, and Aidan Anding and may be on his way to building massive classes down the line.
The Tigers have been ramping up their recruitng in the 2026 and 2027 classes and this week, Corey Raymond extended an offer to 2026 cornerback Samari Matthews.
According to On3's Industry Recruiting Rankings, Matthews is the 49th ranked player in the class and the 4th ranked cornerback. The cornerback has nearly forty scholarship offers mostly from Power Four schools as he's become one of the most sought after recruits in the country.
The next step for LSU and Corey Raymond is getting Matthews on campus before the season ends to continue to build momentum.
The Corey Raymond effect is massive in Baton Rouge
One of the biggest mistakes Brian Kelly made was the building of his first defensive staff at LSU specifically not having Corey Raymond on that staff. Now, Corey Raymond is back in the fold and LSU's defensive backs have progressed incredibly compared to last season. On the recruiting trail, top defensive back recruits are once again viewing LSU as one of the best destinations for development which will only result in LSU landing elite players.
