It's official. The Brian Kelly era in Baton Rouge is over.

LSU made the decision to fire Kelly on Sunday evening following lengthy discussions throughout the day. The move comes a day after the Tigers lost in embarrassing fashion to the Texas A&M Aggies by a score of 49-25 to fall to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in SEC play this season. Tiger fans had reached a boiling point with Kelly, and it didn't take long for the school to pull the plug on Kelly following the lopsided loss to A&M.

After three underwhelming seasons in Baton Rouge, this was supposed to be the year that LSU was back competing for an SEC title and National Championship. But instead, Kelly's team has missed the mark all season long en route to another frustrating season. Kelly's three predecessors - Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Ed Orgeron - all brought national titles to LSU by the end of their 4th season. That is the standard at LSU, and it made Kelly's failure to get the Tigers back to a championship level over his 3.5 years with the program even more difficult for the fan base to accept. Kelly ends his LSU career with an overall record of 34-14 to go along with a 19-10 mark in SEC play.

College Football Playoff hopes for this season are over, but LSU fans are celebrating like the Tigers just won another natty after hearing the news of Kelly's firing. Kelly was an odd fit from the start, and after losing big game after big game, fans were ready to move on. They got their wish on Sunday, and have taken to social media to celebrate the news.
