Along with signing 14 players during the Early Signing Period and bringing in over 40 transfers through the portal, Lane Kiffin's move from Ole Miss to LSU also came with bringing multiple assistants with him from Oxford to Baton Rouge. Among those assistants is offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., who has emerged into one of the brightest minds in all of college football.

After a severely underwhelming 2025 season for the LSU Football program, Tiger fans are excited to see what Kiffin and Weis can cook up offensively in 2026. However, fans are still holding their breath to see if Weis is indeed on the sidelines at Tiger Stadium on September 5 when the Tigers open the season against Clemson. That's because NFL teams continue trying to lure Weis away from Baton Rouge.

Weis has already turned down interest from multiple NFL teams, but the New York Giants still appear to be very interested in Weis when it comes to filling their open offensive coordinator position. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, New York QB Jaxson Dart is now pushing for Weis to get the job.

Weis coached Dart for all three of his seasons at Ole Miss, and helped develop him into a First Round talent. Dart put together a strong rookie season in 2025, throwing for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns while also adding 487 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. It appears evident that Dart is wanting a reunion with Weis in New York, but LSU fans are hoping it doesn't materialize.

In early January, Weis told On3's Chris Low that he didn't have interest in any NFL job at this point in his career. Raanan notes that at this time, the expectation remains that Weis will remain at LSU for the 2026 season. But Tiger fans won't be able to relax until these rumblings end.

This past season, LSU finished dead last in the SEC in total yards per game (333.5), and 14th in points per game (22.8). Furthermore, the Tigers failed to score more than 25 points against an FBS opponent during the regular season. Needless to say, LSU fans are ready for Kiffin and Weis to lead the LSU offense to a higher-scoring season in 2026.
