The Spring transfer portal has been open for nearly a week, so the LSU Football team has been quiet. The LSU Football team has only lost two players, including former walk-on Javen Nicholas and John Emery Jr, who Brian Kelly said wouldn't be returned for his 7th season at LSU. The slow Spring transfer window isn't a surprise as Brian Kelly told LSU fans the team didn't expect a ton of activity this cycle.
"It wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t have anybody in the portal on either side, either leaving our program or adding. If you ask me right now, I would be happy to take this roster right into May on both sides of it. Maybe that’s fool’s gold. Maybe that’s wishing more than it is anything else. But I like what we’ve done with this roster. I like the development of it."Brian Kelly
While the LSU Football team doesn't expect to be super active this Spring there are a few positions where LSU could afford to add talent. The main positions of need are still defensive tackle, safety, and offensive linemen, as the fanbase would feel more comfortable if the Tigers added more experience.
On Monday a local product entered the transfer portal as Louisiana Monroe safety Wydett Williams entered the transfer portal.
Wydett Williams would be an ideal addition for the LSU Football team as the Tigers look to add experience at the safety position. Last season for Louisiana-Monroe, Williams racked up 100 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and three interceptions. The Lake Providence native started his career at Delta State University before transferring to UL Monroe.
This season at UL Monroe, Wydett Williams was an All-Sun Belt Team defensive back making a massive leap as he came to the next level. While Williams may not be a guaranteed starter, adding a player with his experience and versatility to the defensive backfield would only bring more competition to the room which would push some of LSU's younger players.
The Tigers have built this roster with the goal and expectation of being a College Football Playoff team competing for a National Championship and an SEC Championship. If the staff feels that Williams can be a starter in this defense and a player that makes the roster better, it only helps to add experience at the position.
