In the 2024 recruiting class, the LSU Football program signed one of the most dynamic playmakers in Louisiana signing Ju'Juan Johnson. While at Lafayette Christian Academy, Ju'Juan Johnson rewrote the State record books as a quarterback accounting for 14,470 yards and 171 total touchdowns. The Tigers were able to keep the elite talent In-State signing Johnson as a four star cornerback.

When Johnson got on campus the Tigers coaching staff chose to change his position to safety as the Tigers looked for better options at the position. After John Emery Jr was lost for the season, LSU then moved Johnson to running back as the Tigers were short at the position. On the season, Johnson rushed the ball 7 times for 14 yards while catching 5 passes for 22 yards and a score.

As LSU signed two elite running backs in the 2025 recruiting class it was apparent that he'd likely find a new position to play. The Tigers found Johnson's next position and it comes at the position he excelled at as the Tigers move him to quarterback.

The move makes a ton of sense for LSU and for Ju'Juan Johnson heading into the 2025 season. The Tigers didn't sign a quarterback in the past recruiting class and now Johnson and Michael Van Buren replace Rickie Collins and AJ Swann in the room. The Tigers likely weren't going to have Colin Hurley for Spring practice so the Tigers now have three scholarship quarterbacks in the rotation this Spring.

This Spring it'll be interesting to see how Johnson develops at quarterback and if he can become a true long term option at the position. The Tigers currently don't have a quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class and if the Tigers can't land one Johnson will likely stick at quarterback. Johnson is an incredible athlete and if he can become a better passer it could work out for both parties.
