The LSU Football Program continues to get whatever they want in the transfer portal as they’re red hot. Earlier today, LSU landed a second edge rusher in Jack Pyburn, now they land Virginia Tech cornerback Mansoor Delane.
According to On3’s Industry Transfer player rankings, Delane is the 9th ranked cornerback in the transfer portal and the 61st ranked player overall.
This season, Delane recorded 54 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 7 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions. On his resume, Delane has a Freshman All-American nod and All ACC honors as he's put together three impressive seasons.
It'll be interesting to see how LSU treats the cornerback position in the transfer portal this offseason. LSU has already landed Florida Cornerback Ja'Keem Jackson who Corey Raymond brought to Florida when he was the cornerbacks coach there. LSU will return starting cornerback Ashton Stamps and DJ Pickett is talented enough to start as a true freshman.
Delane is viewed as a versatile defensive back so there is a chance that the Tigers deploy him as a safety. LSU loses safeties Major Burns, Sage Ryan, and Jordan Allen this offseason so it’s a position of need.
While Corey Raymond was away from LSU Football we saw the defensive back group severely underwhelm compared to the LSU standard. In one recruiting period, LSU has landed the top high school cornerback and two of the top ten cornerbacks in the transfer portal.
The Tigers are likely done adding cornerbacks via the transfer portal now but, we’ll see if LSU is able to close out any of the safeties they’ve been pursuing.
