LSU lands its first transfer of the offseason nabbing Oklahoma's Tight End
The transfer portal has been moving faster than it has the past few days on Friday morning. The Tigers have been linked to landing several players from Wide Receiver Barion Brown to Cornerback Ja'Keem Jackson and Virginia Tech Center Braelin Moore. LSU has landed its first transfer of this cycle and it comes as a surprise as its an off the radar move.
LSU has landed Oklahoma Tight End Bauer Sharp who has one year of eligibility remaining.
While Sharp is a great tight end, LSU fans will most likely remember the name Bauer Sharp as he threw an interception to Sage Ryan on a trick play during the LSU Vs Oklahoma game.
According to On3's Industry transfer rankings, Sharp is the 5th ranked tight end in the transfer portal and the 119th ranked player overall.
The Tigers desperately needed to land a tight end in the transfer portal as they lost Mac Markway before the season, Ka'Morreun Pimpton entered after the season, and Mason Taylor declared for the NFL Draft.
This season, Sharp caught 42 passes for 324 yards and scored two touchdowns. The Sooners offense wasn't great at all this season struggling due to their lack of wide receivers, offensive line issues, and constantly changing the quarterback. In a consistent setting at LSU, Sharp will be able to up his numbers while getting a ton of playing time.
Landing Bauer Sharp shouldn't be the end of LSU's pursuit of tight ends, the Tigers now have three tight ends heading into next season one of which will be a true freshman. If LSU wants to play Trey'Dez Green at receiver like they said earlier in the year then you still need to land a player like Luke Hasz to feel great about the room like you did this year.
The News broke during Brian Kelly's press availability and he had the following to say about Sharp.
"The things we like about him, he's a talented player but he's got great physicality. If you watch him closely, if you look at his body of work, it's the physicality in the run game. Pulling, getting on the perimeter, a very good athlete and came in as a quarterback. He can do some really good things in the passing game but having that versatility in the passing and running game is what really stood out to us"
