The LSU Tigers came into tonight with a massive opportunity to seize first place in the SEC with a win, instead the second half was a nightmare as LSU made every mistake possible to lose this football game.

LSU jumped out to an early lead scoring on a field goal on its second drive of the game followed by a touchdown to Mason Taylor thanks to a Sage Ryan forced fumble quieting the Kyle Field crowd with a 10-0 lead. The Aggies got right back into the game with a touchdown cutting LSU's lead to three.

The Tigers mistakes started right after starting with a missed field goal from Damian Ramos where Peyton Todd couldn't get the ball held right. The defense stood tall forcing a punt and the offense in turn answered with a 76-yard Aaron Anderson touchdown.

The Tigers got another stop and could've pushed their lead to 13 points but missed yet another field goal.

After halftime, it was a back and forth of punts until Garrett Nussmeier threw an ugly interception throwing back across the middle of the field leading directly to a Texas A&M touchdown. The Tigers drove down the field looking to get some points back but, the field goal operation snapped the ball early hitting Peyton Todd in the face giving Texas A&M all the momentum.

The Aggies turned that into a touchdown to take the lead and starting the next drive needing an answer Garrett Nussmeier forced a ball and it led to an interception for A&M setting up Marcel Reed for his third straight touchdown.

The LSU offense followed it up with their best drive of the night ending with a Garrett Nussmeier tush push touchdown. After LSU got beat by Marcel Reed's legs they got beat by his arm as he split LSU's secondary with a 54 yard bomb. The Aggies then capitalized as Le'Veon Moss scored a three yard touchdown.

As LSU tried to cut this back into a one score game, Garrett Nussmeier threw his third interception of the game.

This week, Garrett Nussmeier received a ton of praise from NFL Draft analysts as a potential first round pick and as the best quarterback in this draft class. In the second half of this game Garrett Nussmeier made three ill advised mistakes throwing back over the middle, staring down his wide receiver, and throwing the ball directly to a defensive lineman. The Tigers needed Nussmeier to play his best game to win this one and turning the ball over three times was a recipe for disaster.

The defense had a great first half but, once Mike Elko turned to Marcel Reed, the Tigers were outscored 31 to 6 as they couldn't stop Reed and his dual threat ability.

The Tigers could've taken first place in the SEC with a win and would've been in great position to both head to the SEC Championship and to earn a College Football Playoff bid. The Tigers have now suffered their second loss before November and will get a bye week before facing Alabama in an elimination game in Tiger Stadium.

We've seen this story before from this team

During the broadcast, Kirk Herbstreit mentioned how Brian Kelly had talked about how this team needed to mature bringing up how Kelly said the Tigers felt they had the game won against USC and let it slip away. This game felt the same way as LSU made mistake after mistake never getting back on track after halftime. At some point, Brian Kelly needs to figure out what it is with this team as they had every chance to end this one early but, instead they let it slip away with mistakes.
