As the regular season is officially in the books, the Transfer Portal is starting to fill up with the names of players looking to find their next home. The LSU Football team has lost its first transfer of the year as quarterback Rickie Collins has announced he'll be transferring out of LSU.

This season Collins didn't receive a ton of playing time but, when he did play he made the most of his opportunites. In his two years at LSU, Collins has completed 7 passes on 7 attempts for 35 yards while picking up 37 yards rushing.

The Tigers decision to go with AJ Swann on Saturday over Collins when Garrett Nussmeier went down with an injury may have been the last straw.

This decision has been trending this way for the entire season and it makes a ton of sense for Collins to move on. Garrett Nussmeier was good enough to fend off Swann and Collins which kept them both from challenging him for playing time. The Tigers also pushed hard for Bryce Underwood and have a talented true freshman who was supposed to be in the 2025 recruiting class in Collin Hurley.

The loss of Collins only makes it more important that LSU gets Garrett Nussmeier back as he weighs his options between one more season or the NFL Draft. After the Tigers lost Bryce Underwood quarterback became a position LSU needed to push for in the transfer portal and as Collins moves on it'll only become more important. The player to watch now is AJ Swann as he may look to move on to a schol where he could start which would leave LSU very shorthanded at quarterback.
