The regular season just came to a close for LSU this weekend yet it has already started a hectic offseason. The Tigers lost Rickie Collins to the transfer portal while Kade Phillips is the latest player to flip from LSU after being committed for most of the cycle.

The latest news is maybe the most shocking thus far as wide receiver CJ Daniels enters the transfer portal.

The news comes as a shock as just last week Brian Kelly told the media that everyone was expecting CJ Daniels would return next season. It has been an underwhelming season for Daniels as he’s dealt with a dislocated heel coming off of a 1,000 yard season.

Given that LSU likely will only sign two wide receivers as they lose Kyren Lacy, CJ Daniels, and Landon Ibieta the wide receiver position becomes a position for the Tigers to target in the transfer portal. The Tigers can go the instant top end starter like Kevin Concepcion, or it can be for a younger player who they hope can develop.

The loss of Daniels does open the door for transfer of wide receivers and it now makes the position a massive priority. Playing time for younger wide receivers such as Kyle Parker, Shelton Sampson Jr, Jelani Watkins, and Kylan Billiot now opens up and we should see them get some reps in the Bowl Game.

The lead up to the offseason has been hectic for LSU as the Tiger fight to keep their recruiting class intact. Brian Kelly says he expects some impact players to forgo the NFL in favor of returning which should be a boost but, LSU has plenty of work to do in the transfer portal.
