It's shaping up to be another big recruiting weekend for Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers. No. 20 LSU is set to host No. 3 Texas A&M on Saturday night in a game the Tigers need to have. Already with two losses, Kelly and company can't afford another loss if they want any shot of qualifying for the College Football Playoff.
While plenty of attention will be directed to LSU's play on the gridiron, plenty of fans will be locked into the recruiting efforts happening in Baton Rouge this weekend as well. That's because LSU is set to host multiple 5-star recruits in an effort to flip them away from another SEC school.
LSU set to host 5-star WR Jase Mathews
Among the notable names heading to Baton Rouge this weekend is 5-star wide receiver Jase Mathews. Hailing from Leakesville, MS, Mathews is the No. 1 WR in the 2027 class in the Rivals300. He committed to Auburn on August 8, but LSU was in the running until the very end. Mathews has already been to Baton Rouge, last visiting the Tigers on June 20.
Mathews is described by 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins as a "large and athletic receiver with true WR1 potential given how he jumps and runs." Ivins added that Mathews can "float in the air and make contested grabs with his 6-foot-1.5 frame and elite ball skills." The highly-touted recruit tore his ACL early on in his senior season, but still exits his high school career with more than 2,000 receiving yards to his name.
LSU will also be hosting 5-star safety Bralan Womack, who is also committed to Hugh Freeze and Auburn. According to 247Sports, Womack is the No. 13 overall player and No. 1 safety in the 2026 class. Auburn has dropped four consecutive SEC games, and Hugh Freeze is on the hottest of seats right now. It's a situation worth monitoring, and LSU is hoping Auburn's woes lead the Mathews and Womack flipping their commitments.
As it stands, LSU has the No. 11 recruiting class for 2026 according to 247Sports. Getting Mathews and/or Womack to flip would be huge for Kelly and LSU as they continue to round out their future recruiting classes.
