The quarterback situation at LSU was the subject of much discussion this season. Garrett Nussmeier entered the 2025 season among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy, but an abdominal injury hindered his performance and led to him missing significant time down the stretch.
Michael Van Buren was a formidable backup serving as the starter down the stretch, but he struggled with consistency and his future in Baton Rouge remains unknown. Now, another transfer update brings even more question marks to LSU's quarterback situation for the 2026 season.
Aaron Anderson's surprising decision leaves serious question marks in LSU's WR room for 2026
After spending two seasons with the Tigers, redshirt freshman QB Colin Hurley is expected to enter the transfer portal. Hurley is a former 4-star recruit who was ranked the No. 23 quarterback in the country for the 2024 recruiting class.

Colin Hurley set to leave LSU and enter the transfer portal
Hurley was one of the youngest players to ever enroll and play football at LSU. He was just 16 years old when he arrived on campus in January of 2024. He was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2024, and is now set to enter the transfer portal without appearing in any game action with LSU over the course of two seasons. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
The Miami native missed most of spring practice after being involved in a single-car accident in January. He was able to make a full recovery and rejoined the team for the last week of spring drills. Last month, Hurley didn't travel with the team to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama on November 8 due to a personal matter.
Entering Lane Kiffin's first season at the helm in 2026, LSU's quarterback situation has plenty of question marks heading at this time. LSU's 2026 recruiting class currently does not include any quarterbacks, and the two quarterbacks listed on the Texas Bowl depth chart are Van Buren and freshman Emile Picarella III.
Kiffin worked his magic in the transfer portal over his six seasons at Ole Miss, and he has plenty of QBs to look into via the portal right now. Notable QBs planning to enter the transfer portal include Nebraska's Dylan Raiola, Arizona State's Sam Leavitt, Florida's DJ Lagway, Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby, and Michigan State's Aidan Chiles. Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss is also a name to keep a close eye on.
