The LSU quarterback situation is going to be interesting to watch over the next several weeks. With Garrett Nussmeier out of eligibility and Michael Van Buren showing plenty of inconsistencies, Tiger fans are eager to see what Lane Kiffin does at quarterback for the 2026 season.
Former LSU QB plans to enter the transfer portal again in a never-ending saga
Kiffin is known as a quarterback guru and has repeatedly developed great playmakers at the quarterback position. Most recently, Kiffin led Trinidad Chambliss to a sensational season at Ole Miss a year after he won the Division II National Championship at Ferris State.
As Kiffin continues building his first roster in Baton Rouge, it will be interesting to see how he approaches the quarterback situation.
Lane Kiffin has plenty of QB options in the transfer portal
Kiffin heavily utilized the transfer portal during his time at Ole Miss. With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising to see him pursue every available quarterback option in the portal. He has several options, as multiple QBs from Power 4 teams are reportedly set to enter the portal. Notable QBs planning to enter the transfer portal include Nebraska's Dylan Raiola, Arizona State's Sam Leavitt, Florida's DJ Lagway, Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby, and Michigan State's Aidan Chiles.
Furthermore, Trinidad Chambliss is waiting to see if he will receive a waiver from the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility. If it's granted, Chambliss is a name to keep an eye on as LSU's potential QB for the 2026 season. Chambliss seems to be the easy pick, as his connection with Kiffin makes for an ideal union in Baton Rouge.
The LSU offense as a whole struggled mightily in 2025, ranking 15th in the SEC scoring 21.8 points per game during the regular season. The Tigers couldn't find the end zone on a consistent basis, as they never scored more than 25 points in a game against an FBS opponent.
Kiffin's Rebels ranked 3rd in the SEC and 11th nationally with an average of 37.3 points per game during the regular season. Those are the types of numbers that LSU fans are hoping to see in 2026 during Kiffin's first season in Baton Rouge.
