What LSU's projected win total means for the Tigers College Football Playoff hopes
It's important to note that the College Football win totals don't include Bowl Games or any other postseason play.
If the Tigers go over their win total of 8.5 it doesn’t guarantee a bid into the College Football Playoff as At 9-3 the Tigers would likely miss out as a 3 loss team. The best path for LSU making the Playoff with 3 losses would be in the case where they lost to Clemson to open the season but, only lost 2 games in SEC Play winning the league.
When you look further into LSU's win total, the Tigers are going to be heavy favorites against Louisiana Tech, Southeastern Louisiana, and Western Kentucky which will account for 3 of the projected wins. That means in SEC Play and with the Clemson game, the Tigers would have to go 6-3 or better to hit their mark.
Based on the projected win total for Clemson and Alabama both of which are 9.5, the LSU Football team will likely be picked to lose those two games. If LSU is able to win either of those games it'll be a massive swing for the Tigers as it would give them a massive resume building win and take away a projected loss.
If LSU is going to make the College Football Playoff, it'll have to be because the Tigers won a ton of tough games. In the SEC, every week is a battle and to win the National Championship there's no easy path. The best start would be LSU finally snapping it's losing streak in season openers putting the Tigers on the right track for the first time under Brian Kelly.
The Conference Commissioners have been discussing potential changes to the College Football Playoff after it's first season at 12 teams. Among the proposed changes has been the idea to expand the field and the idea to guarantee the SEC and Big 10 each get 4 bids. The latter change would be pivotal for LSU as the Tigers are currently projected 4th while it would also give the Tigers an even greater chance at making the College Football Playoff.
