LSU cruised to a 56-10 win over Southeastern Louisiana at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. Brian Kelly didn't love the start from his offense, but Garrett Nussmeier and company were able to get into a rhythm and put together a solid performance. The offense needs to be firing on all cylinders with a massive tilt at No. 13 Ole Miss slated for next Saturday.

With LSU moving to 4-0 on the season, one player stood out against the Lions. Ju'Juan Johnson got to spend plenty of time in the LSU backfield in Week 4, and he took advantage of his opportunity. The sophomore playmaker scored two touchdowns while leading the Tigers with 43 rushing yards on a team-high eight carries. The standout performance could have the dynamic playmaker in line for a bigger workload in the LSU running game moving forward.

Ju'Juan Johnson shines against Southeastern Louisiana

Johnson started his collegiate career on the defensive side of the ball playing safety during his freshman season. Then during this past offseason, the Lafayette native took snaps at quarterback, wide receiver, and running back. His exact role remained a question mark, but when the ball is in his hands, he is capable of makings things happen in a big way.

Johnson entered the 2025 season with 15 carries for 23 yards in 16 career games. He had just eight carries for nine yards in the first three games of the season. But on Saturday night, he was the best running back on the field for LSU, and his two touchdowns were the first two of his career.

Johnson shined at Lafayette Christian Academy before committing to LSU. He set the Louisiana High School Athletic Association record for total yards (14,451) and touchdowns (171) during his high school career. He is a gifted playmaker who is dangerous with the ball in his hands no matter what position he is playing.

Caden Durham has struggled to get going this season, which could open the door for Johnson to receive more touches. So far this season, Durham has 196 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 45 carries. He totaled just 17 rushing yards on seven carries (2.4 yards per carry) against the Lions on Saturday night. Durham figures to remain LSU's RB1, but Johnson can offer a nice change of pace to the LSU offense. Moving forward, finding creative ways to keep Johnson involved in the LSU offense could pay dividends for Joe Sloan and company.
