The past week has been a rough stretch for the LSU Softball as the Tigers season comes to an end kicking off the offseason. The stretch started as LSU Softball was bounced from its own Regional in the NCAA Tournament as the In-State Southeastern Louisiana Lions beat the Tigers twice which is a truly stunning result.
LSU Softball losing as early as it did only raised questions about the Tigers program as Beth Torina's result haven't been as good as they were to start her career. Ultimately, Beth Torina will be back at LSU for the 2026 season despite the disappointing result.
While Beth Torina is returning to Baton Rouge, she'll be doing so without one of her best players. On Tuesday, the LSU Softball team lost starting pitcher Sydney Berzon to the transfer portal.

This season, Sydney Berzon battled injuries yet, she managed to go 18-8 with a 2.46 ERA in 139.1 innings pitched. Berzon pitched the Tigers lone win in the NCAA Tournament pitching a 3-0 shutout against UConn which made it questionable that she didn't start the 2nd game against Southeastern Louisiana.
In her LSU Career, Sydney Berzon was dominant with a 52-25 record and a 2.02 ERA pitching 486.1 innings with 416 strikeouts. Berzon turned in one of the most impressive outings in 2024, turning in 14 innings where she thre 208 pitches as the Tigers beat the Alabama Crimson Tide. The 2-time All American instantly becomes one of the best players available in the transfer portal and will be a player to watch.
The LSU Softball team returns star freshman Jayden Heavener who will likely serve as the ace of the Tigers staff. As Beth Torina continues to stack elite recruiting classes, the Tigers will have plenty of pieces to compete for a role in the Tigers rotation.
