The LSU Softball team continues to dominate its competition entering Sunday with a 9-0 record. Saturday was LSU's toughest day of the season thus far on paper facing off against two Top 25 opponents in Northwestern and Virginia Tech.
In the first game of the day against Northwestern, LSU Softball sent Sydney Berzon to the mound and she dominated Northwestern helping the Tigers to an 8-0 Mercy Rule win. Berzon allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 7 Wildcats en route to her second shutout of the season. The Tigers' offense jumped all over Northwestern posting 12 hits over 5 innings.
Game Two saw LSU Softball face off against Virginia Tech as the Tigers sent Freshman phenom Jayden Heavener to the mound. Heavener started off dominant shutting out Virginia Tech for the first five innings finishing the game with five strikeouts while giving up five hits, two runs, and two walks across seven innings.
The two runs Heavener allowed didn't matter as the offense jumped all over a dominant Virginia Tech pitching staff. Coming into the game, Virginia Tech hadn't allowed a run through 8 games, the LSU offense broke that streak in the first inning and drove in seven runs before Virginia Tech was able to push across a run.
Maci Bergeron and McKenzie Redoutey were dominant on Saturday driving in three runs each with a combined six hits. Jadyn Laneaux had an impressive Saturday going 4 for 4 at the plate with a walk, 3 RBIs, and a run scored.
This weekend has already been a massive success as the LSU Softball team has won four games with three wins over ranked opponents. The Tigers wrap up the Purple and Gold Classic on Sunday Morning as LSU faces off against Virginia Tech at 11:30 AM Central Time.
