On July 4th, we've all become accustomed to fireworks lighting up the sky but, this year the fireworks will be on the recruiting trail as well. Elite Five-Star recruit Lamar Brown is the top recruit out of Louisiana and a player LSU has been after longer than any other program. This month, Lamar Brown named his final four with LSU, Texas A&M, Miami, and Florida State still in the running.

The final four wasn't surprising but, this recruitment has long felt like a battle between LSU and Texas A&M. This fall as Texas A&M hosted Lamar Brown on visits into the Summer with Mike Elko visiting his school it looked like the Aggies held the lead. LSU has since turned up the heat recruiting Brown on defense and it appears LSU may have shifted back into the lead.

While Miami and Florida State have remained in the running back, Lamar Brown made it clear to Rivals Sam Spigelman that its a race between LSU and Texas A&M ahead of his July 4th commitment date.

"They've got a race until July 4th. We'll see what happens."

The LSU Football team needs to win out in the race for Lamar Brown especially as they'd end up facing him every year if they don't. Last cycle saw USC dip into Louisiana to nab the top defensive lineman in the state signing Jahkeem Stewart and LSU can't afford to miss out in back to back years on one of the state's best players.

The Tigers have a few things in their favor in this recruitment which should give them an edge in landing his commitment. The Tigers will get the final visit of the four official visits which should let them know what they're up against when it comes to landing Brown. The Tigers also have the advantage of Brown going to school in the shadows of Tiger Stadium which gives them every chance to get him on campus even following the Spring.
