It's been a busy bye week for the LSU Football program. Firing Brian Kelly started a tumultuous series of events that saw plenty of fireworks off the field. With all that is going on, interim head coach Frank Wilson is trying to rally his team ahead of a massive matchup in Tuscaloosa. The Tigers and Crimson Tide are set to meet for the 90th time. Alabama holds the all-time series edge 57-27-5, and has won 14 of the last 18 meetings going back to 2008.
Best on best: Mansoor Delane prepares for heavyweight matchup against Alabama
But the Tigers aren't worried about history in this series. Already with 3 losses on the season, LSU is looking to put together a strong final third of the 2025 campaign, and it starts with this matchup against the 4th-ranked Crimson Tide. It's not surprising to see oddsmakers favor Alabama by a decent margin, but that doesn't mean LSU can't play spoiler and pull off the upset.

LSU vs Alabama prediction
LSU has struggled to run the ball all season long, but so has Alabama. LSU ranks 15th in the SEC with 106.3 rushing yards per game, while Alabama ranks 14th with 118.9. The difference for Alabama has been the superb play of Ty Simpson, who has 20 touchdowns and just a single interception on 261 pass attempts this season. A lot is being asked of Simpson on a week-to-week basis, and LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker has extreme confidence in his DBs to hold things down on the back end. That could lead to Baker dialing up some blitz packages to put the pressure on Simpson.
Alabama has won 7 games in a row, but it's not like they've been dominating teams. Of their 5 SEC wins, 3 have come by one possession. They showed some vulnerabilities in their last contest against South Carolina, needing a 4th quarter comeback to avoid the upset.
When a coach is fired in the middle of the season, it's always interesting to see how teams respond. Will they pack it in and just go through the motions to get through the rest of the season? Or will they find a new gear and put forth a strong effort? Brian Kelly is gone, and while the last 2 weeks have been a soap opera in Baton Rouge, none of that matters when the Tigers take the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night. Frank Wilson is a beloved figure at LSU, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Tigers come out with an enhanced sense of urgency in this one. They may not have enough juice to pull off the upset, but look for the Tigers to hang around and make this one interesting.
Score prediction: Alabama wins 28-24
