The 2025 Magnolia Bowl is shaping up to be a good one. The fourth-ranked LSU Tigers and 13th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels are set for a massive Week 5 game on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are undefeated with records of 4-0, and a lot is on the line for both teams.
Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU offense are hoping they worked out the kinks against Southeastern Louisiana in Week 4, as keeping up with Ole Miss' high-powered offense presents a tough challenge. The Rebels have scored 44.8 points per game this season, and have an emerging star on their hands at the quarterback position.
Trinidad Chambliss is expected to make his third straight start for Lane Kiffin's team on Saturday against LSU. Chambliss took over in Week 3 against Arkansas after an injury to Austin Simmons, and has been extremely impressive en route to leading the Rebels to wins over Arkansas and Tulane.
Trinidad Chambliss to get starting nod against LSU
Simmons is still working through an ankle injury, but even if he was 100% healthy, it wouldn't have been surprising to see Kiffin still roll with Chambliss. A Ferris State transfer and Division II national champion, Chambliss has totaled five touchdowns without turning the ball over in his two games as the starter.
In his most recent outing, Chambliss shined against Tulane in Week 4. He completed 17 of his 27 pass attempts for 307 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions through the air. He also rushed for 112 yards on 14 carries. His all-around performance made him just the fourth QB in Ole Miss history to throw for 300+ yards and rush for 100+ yards in the same game, joining Archie Manning, Chad Kelly, and Jordan Ta'amu.
In total, Chambliss has completed 67.7% of his passes for 719 yards while rushing for 195 yards on 36 carries on the season. Over the past two weeks he has totaled 106 rushing yards after contact, and ranks fifth in the country with a PFF grade of 90.0. LSU's revamped defense has showed out so far this season, but this will be their toughest challenge yet. Plus, the offense needs to put together its best outing of the season after averaging a measly 20 points per game against teams not named Southeastern Louisiana so far this season.
Kick-off between the Tigers and Rebels is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford. LSU won last year's meeting in Baton Rouge by a score of 29-26 in overtime.
