LSU Wide Receiver Shelton Sampson Jr announces his intentions to transfer
It has been a busy start to the offseason for LSU as the staff juggles NFL Draft Decisions, the Early Signing Period, the transfer portal, and coaching staff changes after Slade Nagle took a job at Houston as the offensive coordinator. The Tigers will see another player leave the program as Wide Receiver Shelton Sampson Jr will enter the transfer portal.
Sampson enters the Transfer Portal after two years at LSU with three years of eligibility remaining as he redshirted in 2023. Sampson joins QB Rickie Collins, WR CJ Daniels, S Jordan Allen, Edge Rusher Da'Shawn Womack, and WR Landon Ibieta in the transfer portal. As a recruit, Sampson was the 84th ranked player in the class, the 14th ranked wide receiver, and the 4th ranked player from Louisiana in the 2023 class.
The news doesn't come as a shock as Shelton Sampson Jr didn't receiver a ton of playing time this season. Kyle Parker earned the third wide receiver job out of the Summer before Aaron Anderson stepped up in his absence locking down the role. The part of the decision that is surprising is that LSU will need to replace two starting Wide Receivers as Kyren Lacy and CJ Daniels depart and Sampson could've made the jump into one of those role next season.
Sampson finished the season without a catch but, he did appear in a few games this season.
The Tigers will be active in the transfer portal looking for wide receivers, LSU signed just two wide receivers in the class and as things currently stand they'll need to replace four departing wide receivers.
A few names that stand out for LSU are Texas Tech transfer Micah Hudson, Kentucky Transfers Barion Brown and Dane Key, NC State Transfer KC Concepcion, and Texas transfer Johntay Cook while we will see more entries and declared entries before the Transfer Portal officially opens on December 9th.
