Mikaylah Williams began her LSU career with plenty of hype. She was ranked as the No. 1 player in the country for the 2023 recruiting class, and won back-to-back Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year honors at Parkway High School in Bossier City. Now in her third season with the Tigers, it's clear that Williams has lived up to the hype.
LSU sets multiple records in one of the most dominant performances of the season
Williams has been a model of consistency throughout her LSU career. The Bossier City native has started 98 of her 99 games with the purple and gold, and is averaging 15.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. She is also shooting a strong 47.3% from the field in her collegiate career, and is enjoying the best three-point shooting year of her career with a shooting percentage of 41.5% from beyond the arc this season.
As the Tigers prepare to take on the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday, Williams is closing in on an impressive career milestone that puts her among the greats in LSU women's basketball history.
Mikaylah Williams inches closer to impressive LSU milestone
With 1,492 points to her name in her career, Williams needs just eight points to eclipse 1,500 points at LSU. That means she could reach the 1,500-point mark on Thursday night at the PMAC when LSU hosts Tennessee in the final regular season home game for the Tigers. Williams would become the 17th player in LSU women's basketball history to surpass that milestone while in Baton Rouge.
Williams has started all 28 games for Kim Mulkey's squad this season, and is averaging 12.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and a career-high 3.6 assists per game. She recorded her first double-double of the season on Sunday against Missouri, as she totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds in a game in which LSU set an SEC program record with 72 rebounds.
Williams has become one of the most consistent and reliable players in LSU history. For her efforts, she was named First Team All-SEC in 2025, was the 2024 SEC Freshman of the Year and a member of the 2024 SEC All-Freshman Team.
Williams racked up 16 points in both meetings against Tennessee last season. Tip-off between the Tigers and Volunteers is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Thursday. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
