LSU MBB. Press Maravich. 2. player. . 1966-1972. 76-86 overall record. 529. . Press Maravich

Press Maravich coached at LSU from 1996 to 1972 and is most known for coaching his son "Pistol" Pete Maravich, who once held the all-time scoring record for decades until the past weekend when Iowa's Caitlin Clark broke it. Maravich started extremely slow with the Tigers going 3-23 and 1-17 in the SEC.

Maravich stepped it up the next season going 14-12 but still just 8-10 in the SEC. LSU took a small step back in Maravich's third season going an average 13-13 with a 7-11 SEC record. The Tiger's fourth season under Maravich was by far thier best. The team went 22-10 and 13-5 in the SEC, but did not have an NCAA appearance, instead, the Tigers got an NIT invitation and got fourth place in that tournament.

Things went downhill again for Maravich as he went 14-12 and 10-16 in his final two seasons which led to his firing in 1972. his overall losing record is what led to his being asked to leave the program. LSU replaced Maravich with Dale Brown who would go on to be one of the best coaches in LSU basketball history.
