The LSU Football team dropped yet another season opener marking an 0-3 start in season openers in Brian Kelly's LSU career. While most fans have reacted rationally, there is a massive group of LSU fans and outsiders who feel that Brian Kelly isn't the fit for LSU and that the Tigers should move on.

Look, Kelly hasn't lived up to the standard at LSU. He's now 3-6 against teams ranked in the top 25 over the past two seasons. The issue for those in the camp that LSU would be better off firing Brian Kelly is that you can't just snap your fingers and make him disappear, it's much more complicated than that.

The biggest obstacle would be Brian Kelly's contract as he has a massive buyout which is still over $60 million dollars. Even if LSU wanted to get rid of Kelly, his leash is much longer than you'd think until that number gets feasible. If the team and the boosters even wanted to pony up that much money after paying the next coach you'd likely see a massive downturn in NIL spending.

Speaking of which Brian Kelly and his staff have done an excellent job on the recruiting trail and currently hold the Nation's third-ranked recruiting class. If you fire Brian Kelly, that recruiting class likely takes a massive hit and there'd certainly be a transfer portal exodus that would put the next coach in a terrible situation.

The answer isn't firing Brian Kelly

As much as everyone is upset with the loss and rightfully so, Brian Kelly isn't even close to being on the hot seat. This team will certainly be leaps and bounds better before their next big test against Ole Miss. The Tigers still control their own destiny as they could automatically qualify for the playoff by winning the SEC while winning two of three against Alabama, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma while handling the rest of the schedule would put this team into the College Football Playoff.
