Despite looking shaky in their win, LSU Football moves up in the Coaches and AP Poll
In the past, the release of the AP Poll didn't mean much as the four teams contending for the College Football Playoff were all but set in stone. Now with the expanded 12 team College Football Playoff, every week we see teams enter and exit playoff contention as this season is looking like it's going to be chaotic from start to finish.
We saw LSU make a slide down the AP Poll and the US LBM Coaches Poll after the Tigers lost to USC. Last week in the AP Poll the LSU Football team was ranked 18th, this week despite not looking their best against Nicholls State the Tigers move up two spots to 16th while Michigan and Notre Dame slide behind the Tigers.
The Tigers entered the week ranked 19th in the US LBM Coaches poll, after this weekend, the Tigers jump up to 17th.
After a massive win over Kentucky, it would've been nice to see South Carolina enter either top 25 so a potential LSU win would've meant more but, the game will be difficult regardless. Also relevant for LSU is the USC Trojans rise into the 11th spot, Alabama remaining 4th, and Oklahoma remaining in the top 15.
The Tigers still control their path to the College Football Playoff
It's still so early in the college football season that the loss to USC won't hurt LSU too much unless they drop a second game early on. The Tigers kick off SEC play this week against a good South Carolina team and a win on the road would be another step towards playoff contention. If LSU is going to be a true playoff contender, they can't suffer another loss until they face off against the Ole Miss Rebels.
