Don't expect a Trey Holly return in 2024 for the LSU Football Team
This season, it was expected that Trey Holly would be a massive piece of the LSU Football team as one of the returning players at running back. As a true freshman, Holly flashed rushing the ball 11 times for 110 yards and a touchdown averaging 10 yards per carry. He flashed his big play ability with a 67 yard rush against Army that made every LSU fan excited to see what he would do next.
The 2024 season immediatley became doubtful when news first broke that Trey Holly was involved in a shooting and was charged with second-degree murder among other charges. this spring the murder charge was dropped but, a felony weapons charge still lingers.
Brian Kelly seemed optimistic about getting Holly back based on information he heard first in the Spring and then before Summer camp. The hopes for a return in time for the Summer were dashed when Holly had a new court date scheduled for September 18th as he remained away from the team.
September 18th came around and it now seems that LSU won't have Holly back at all this season as new evidence was introduced in the case and the next court date is now set for December 18th.
The Running Back room is still extremely thin
Part of the reason LSU wanted Trey Holly back so quickly was due to the lack of depth in the running back room as LSU entered the season with Josh Williams, John Emery Jr, Kaleb Jackson, and Caden Durham. The Tigers have since lost John Emery Jr for the season and moved Ju'Juan Johnson from Safety to running back to help with numbers in the room. The Tigers will get two incredible running backs in Harlem Berry and JT Lindsey onto campus next year but, the Tigers desperatley need to stay healthy in the room this season now that Holly returning seems out of the picture.
