ESPN launches its new theme for the SEC replacing the SEC on CBS Theme and we hate it
One of the biggest changes this upcoming College Football season that's flying under the radar is that the SEC Football games will no longer be on CBS. The Big Ten now gets the CBS treatment while the SEC will be on ESPN and ABC. The SEC had been partnered with CBS dating back to 1996 and the two became synonymous.
While we're all not tied to what Networks our games are played on, there is one identifying thing that will be heavily missed. The famous SEC on CBS theme now belongs to the Big ten which honestly still doesn't feel right that we won't get the iconic theme that everyone knows and legendary introduction videos like we got for Nick Saban's return to Baton Rouge.
ABC and ESPN announced today that they'll be bringing back it's theme from the late 90's and early 2000's as the new theme for the SEC on ESPN.
It's hard to feel strongly about a new song we'll hear coming out of commercials and during the introduction to a game but, it doesn't feel the same. The SEC on CBS theme is iconic and felt like a better fit for big games like LSU vs Alabama than it does for Wisconsin Vs Rutgers in a meaningless Big Ten Game.
This isn't exactly a new song to College Football Fans
While this won't feel to familiar, this song is heavily tied to College Football and to the SEC. The sing was used when ESPN did it's SEC Football Prime Time Saturday Night games. If you played the NCAA Football video game series, this song was heavily used in NCAA 14 and some of the games prior. It's not that the song is bad but, going from something iconic to something new will never feel right.
