Five Free Agent LSU Tigers we'd like to see signed before training camp
The return of both college football and the NFL is right around the corner as we’re in the last month without football. As training camp approaches, teams will look to fill out their rosters to prepare for the preseason. For a NFL teams still looking for capable starters, there are still five LSU Tigers available for teams looking for starters.
Jamal Adams - Safety
At the start of the off-season, the Seattle Seahawks released Jamal Adams as a way to save salary cap space as they move into the post-Pete Carroll era. Shockingly, no team has signed the former All-Pro to bolster their defense. While Adams has dealt with a ton of injuries, when healthy he's been a star recording 48 tackles in nine games this season. Most teams may not want to take a gamble on Adams as a safety but, he could be a great choice at linebacker for teams especially with his prowess as a blitzer. The teams that would make the most sense for Adams are the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens as both teams have found ways to be creative with similar players.
Kwon Alexander - Linebacker
The reason Kwon Alexander likely isn't signed to this point in the off-season is because he's rehabbing from a torn Achilles he suffered in week ten last season. If Alexander is healthy and ready to play this season, there is no reason why a team shouldn't take a chance on the Pro-Bowl linebacker. Throughout his career, Alexander has been one of the most reliable tacklers while providing solid play in pass coverage. The Ravens stand out as a team that should consider signing the veteran linebacker to bolster their linebacking core.
Patrick Peterson - Cornerback
Since leaving the Arizona Cardinals Patrick Peterson has been a solid cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last season with the Steelers Peterson played all 17 games recording two interceptions and 42 tackles. At this stage of his career, Peterson isn't the cornerback he once was shutting down an opponents top receiver the entire game but, he can still be a valuable piece to a secondary. For teams like the Lions and the Ravens with first-round picks at cornerback it could be very valuable to have a mentor like Peterson in the room.
Leonard Fournette - Running Back
After a solid 2022 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Leonard Fournette hasn't gotten another solid opportunity with any team. Fournette briefly joined the Buffalo Bills at the end of the 2023 season playing in two games before being released after two games. In 2022, Fournette showed he could be a solid receiver more than he had at any point in his career which makes it puzzling as to why he hasn't gotten a solid opportunity since. If we could pick Fournette's next destination, we'd love to see him end up in New York in a Giants offense that parted ways with Saquon Barkley and has a younger running back room while he'd also play alongside Malik Nabers.
Jarvis Landry - Wide Receiver
Earlier this off-season, we saw Jarvis Landry get a workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars but, the former LSU Tiger still remains unsigned. After missing the 2023 season recovering from an injury, Landry is ready to go if a team's willing to give him a shot. When healthy, Landry was a great slot option for the Saints catching 25 passes for 272 yards in nine games. There are plenty of teams with needs at wide receiver that should consider signing Landry while at worst he could be a great veteran mentor for a young wide receiver core.
